As the staff drove off from the Zion Rendezvous yesterday I couldn't believe it was already over. My mind was zigzagging through all the experiences of the week. The highlights definitely included the canyons, food and location. Zion is one of the most beautiful places in the world. Everywhere you turn you view a different vista which invokes a different feeling of amazement. But the most memorable part of the rendezvous is the people. Even the things that were hard and unfortunate had a positive outcome because of the amazing people who helped, supported and aided. This is what the rendezvous is all about.
People are amazing and interesting and complex. Life is full of ups and downs, good times and bad. Our experiences make us who we are. I was with all skill levels this last week. Those who had descended many canyons to those who had only been through a few. This changed the dynamic of each days descent. Every team I was a part of was different. And I can tell you that I enjoyed every minute of it. As we encountered a variety of canyon approaches, down-climbs, big drops, mud holes, river walks, log jambs, interesting exits and everything in between, I learned of the experiences that many have passed and are passing through in life and we did that which people tend to do when they are with each other for an extended period of time—We talked.
Thank you to those of you who came to the Rendezvous. Thank you for being who you are. I have learned much which will help me through the coming years. I, like you, am progressing through life. Each sunrise brings a new day with new adventures and challenges. Now I have more memories to draw strength from to help me keep going down this path called—Life!!
